Photo Exhibition

The photography exhibition  “Monumental olive trees of Crete” by Vassilis Goumas, curated by White Cover, was organised as part of the official launch presentation of Beautiful Life publication, based on Municipal Art Gallery of Heraklion City. Starting with the emergence of the rich heritage that nature gave to the island of Crete, the photographer wanted to emphasize the significance of the olive trees for the Cretans. As a symbol of well being and longevity, olive tree was the symbol of the Pancretan publication "Beautiful Life" as well. But not any olive tree. Source of inspiration for the photographer was the primordial olive trees. The monumental trees scattered throughout the island. Rightly characterized as "monuments of Cretan civilization" and need care. The monumental trees that presented in the exhibition, estimated to be at least 2000 to 3000 years.
